Baby behind the wheel caught on video | News

KOB Eyewitness News 4 received a video of a woman driving in her car with her young baby on her lap behind the wheel.

The person who sent the video said it is the woman's baby sitting on her lap as she drove through Artesia. 

The woman's face was blurred in the video because she is not facing any charges at this time.

KOB sent the video to Children, Youth and Families Department to see what should be done. Acting director Jared Rounsville said they will likely start an investigation to see about the baby's safety.

"We would make a decision with law enforcement about whether or not that child's safety is in jeopardy on an ongoing basis, and whether or not that child would need to be brought into CYFD custody," Rounsville said.

KOB also contacted the Artesia Police Department.  Sergeant Lindell Smith said they have a copy of the video, and are currently trying to get in touch with the woman. 

Sgt. Smith said it is likely the woman will face child abuse or neglect charges.
